TEAM UP with us to increase trauma education in communities

Dear friend,

In recent years, war and persecution have forced many families to flee their homes. Since 2021, families have been resettled in the UK from Afghanistan and Ukraine, and refugees and migrants escaping violence in their home countries are building new lives with host families across the country.

It is vital that those who have lived through horrific events are supported in a trauma-informed way, to aid recovery and help avoid post traumatic stress disorder. Knowledge of trauma also helps staff working with victims to avoid the symptoms of secondary or vicarious trauma, burnout and stress in their work.

This is why we focus on building trauma EDUCATION with hosts of refugees and people seeking asylum, workplace training for organisations employing people who have experienced trauma, and local groups and organisations working with victims of trauma.

In this second week of our campaign, we're focusing on the E of TEAM UP - education. We are committed at TTI to trauma education, to help our communities to be better able to identify and respond to trauma.

The E in TEAM UP is all about increasing education around trauma and trauma-informed practice in homes, communities and workplaces to promote a thriving society.

Our Resource Hub is where we share information, toolkits and upcoming webinars where you can learn more about trauma. Take a look at our blog to learn the basics of trauma and burnout, and our glossary of the most important terms used within the context of trauma.

We have best practice documents and risk assessments for organisations working with individuals affected by trauma and/or traumatic material to deliver effective services and protect their workforce from the effects of secondary trauma.

Our recent Trauma-informed Hosting project has been a huge success, supporting UK hosts, guests and hosting organisations to understand how to welcome refugees in a trauma-informed way. Through this project, we have delivered crucial training to over 225 individuals from 64 organisations.

At TTI, we are committed to providing accessible and culturally appropriate tools for everyone to be better equipped to respond to trauma. Stay tuned, follow us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn and sign up to our newsletter to be updated with all of our news at TTI and learn about the way we work to spread awareness. We hope you enjoy this week’s posts, taking a closer look at these projects.
